Our Story
Namib Kameeldoring
Braai & Firewood
Our wood comes from the farm Gemsbokpan located in the heart of Namibia. The wood comes from dead trees and trees that fell in the field. No trees still growing are being cut down. With much effort, the local community cut down dead trees in the field. They work and stay in the field for about three weeks and then go home for a week; it is hard work! The wood is taken to a central point where it is cut, sewn and packed.
It is then loaded onto pickups and trailers and transported to the pickup point. It is loaded on a 35-ton truck and then transported to South African distribution points.
This wood is extremely dry and heavy. That is why it is called slow-burning and high-temperature wood. The wood creates almost no smoke, has a natural, fragrant scent, creates a large amount of hot, burning coals and wastes no energy that ignites the moisture. Camel thorn has the lowest moisture content of any known braai wood since it is baked by the African sun. The moisture content is between 0 and 1%.
We have various distribution points since our wood is high in demand.
